Our Story
What is the Aurora Potters' Guild?
The Aurora Potters' Guild was founded in 1978 when a few local potters collaborated with the City of Aurora to establish a pottery studio in the back room of the brand new Bicentennial Art Center.
Gradually, the guild used profits from their biannual guild sales to build up the studio into one of the largest community ceramics centers in the Denver area.
Built in 1938, Bicentennial Art Center was originally Lowry Air Force Building No. 1600. It's location high on a ridge made it ideal for a radio communications center during WW2. It's service plus unique architecture earned it historical preservation status in 2013.
Although no longer associated with the Bicentennial Arts Center, the guild still provides a supportive community to artists from many public and private studios all over Aurora and the surrounding area. Our members can participate in our biannual sales along with other activities that support art and our communities.
Can I join the guild?
Guild fees are $30/year and any ceramicist can sign up here. In addition to a few meetings a year, guild members also participate in twice yearly sales. A flat fee and percentage of sales go to supporting marketing, rent, and insurance for sales.
How can I take classes?
Several places in the Metro area offer pottery classes, including the City of Denver, and Trails Recreation Center in Centennial.
Private studios include AlSi (Aluminum Silicone), Denver Art Students League, and FLUX Studios.
