Lisa Kay’s Studio - Lisa Smernoff

What is your favorite part about pottery?:
I love clay because it is so versatile and forgiving when you make mistakes. I have been making pots since I was in high school and still find new things to make and new ways to work with the clay. I am honored when someone picks up a piece I have made, smiles and wants to take it home.

Tell us about yourself and your pottery journey:
I started making pottery my sophomore year of high school. I continued working in clay through college (BFA from CSU) and beyond. I have always loved the feel of clay, whether throwing on the wheel or hand-holding boxes and sculptures. Even small ornaments are a joy to make and share.
My designs reflect my love for nature and geometric shapes. I have recently started expanding to using my love of geometry and color in some sculptural vases and boxes.
All my functional work is fired to cone 10 and is food, oven and microwave safe.
